On July 13, 2016, the Ameson Foundation’s Executive Director, Mr. Stephen Smith; Deputy Director, Mr. Zhu Xiao Di; and Communications Manager, Mr. Nathan Montgomery, were invited to attend the International Leadership Foundation (ILF) and Coalition of Asian American Business Organizations (CAABO) annual Awards Gala at the Capital Hilton in downtown Washington, D. C.
Each year, the ILF invites distinguished officials to speak and honors individuals who have made a significant contribution to the Asian-American community and their nation. This year, Senator Mitch McConnell, current Majority Leader of the U.S. Senate, former Secretary of Labor Elaine Chao, and First Lady of Maryland, Mrs. Yumi Hogan, delivered inspiring speeches. Several other representatives of the U.S. Congress also spoke. The Gala provided a wonderful opportunity for Ameson’s delegation to engage in conversations with several officials from the Maryland Governor’s office, and Mr. Zhu Xiao Di had the unique honor of meeting Majority Leader McConnell towards the end of the event.
As described by Ms. Chiling Tong, CEO and Founding President of ILF, the mission of the ILF is to promote civic awareness, public service, and economic effectiveness of the Asian Pacific American (APA) community. The organization employs its network of business and community leaders to help develop young talent for careers that involve entrepreneurship, international trade, and politics.
The Ameson Foundation proudly supports ILF and the Coalition of Asian American Business Organizations and their efforts towards bridging the gap between cultures, languages, and customs around the world. The Ameson Foundation will continue to provide pathways to further global citizenship through education and cultural exchange.
