Ameson Education and Culture Exchange Foundation and the China Zhigong Party donated more than 600 books valued at $20,000 to the China Town branch of the Los Angeles Public Library, on April 30, 2009.
Taking part in the donation presentation: Mr. Xu Zhaoyou, the Chinese Consulate General of LA; Mr. Huang Yinhui, Director of the Jiangsu Zhigong Party Committee; Professor Sean Zhang, the Ameson Foundation Deputy Chairman; Mr. Ramon Cortines, former Deputy Mayor of LA and current Superintendant of the Los Angeles School District; Ms. Kris Morita, Interim Library Director.
The donation included Chinese-language fiction and non-fiction books. As quoted in the
Library News (a publication put out by the Los Angeles Public Library), Ms. Morita said: “This generous contribution adds to the Library’s extensive Chinese-language collections. It will certainly enrich people’s understanding and appreciation for Chinese culture, throughout the City of Los Angeles.”
Professor Sean Zhang, the Deputy Chairman of the Ameson Foundation, commented: “Books are windows into Chinese culture and society. We are very happy to be part of the meaningful process of contributing to mutual understanding, and building friendship between the people of China and the US – one day, such efforts will certainly lead to the establishment of world harmony”.
At the end of the donation presentation, Professor Zhang stated that the Ameson Foundation plans to continue donating books that reflect Chinese culture, history and contemporary development to the Los Angeles public library over the next five years.
