r. Michael Behnke, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Chicago, joined the Deputy Chairman of the Ameson Foundation Professor Sean Zhang in visiting the Shaoxing No. 1 Middle School in Zhejiang Province, in order to cultivate a deeper spirit of collaboration between all parties.

Shaoxing No. 1 Middle School is one of China’s most esteemed high schools, with a deep history spanning more than a century. The school has produced a number of notable graduates, including writer Lu Xun, historical scholar Cai Yuanpei, four presidents of Beijing University, and a number of others who have gone on to forge academic careers within the Chinese Academy of Science.

During the Ameson visit, Dr. Behnke and Professor Zhang were greeted by numerous dignitaries: Mr. Zhen Guoyang (the Director of the Shaoxing City Education Bureau), Mr. Zhou Guojun (Section Chief of the Basic Education Section, Education Bureau), and the Principal of Shaoxing No.1 Middle School, Mr. Cha Pinyang.

Dr. Behnke (an Ameson Foundation Consultant and Director of the US College Board, on top of his Vice-Chancellor duties at the University of Chicago) told the hosts that he fully intended to support increased curricula collaboration between the University of Chicago and Chinese secondary schools. To that end, further discussions were held to expand on plans for the Ameson Foundation to assist with this process by implementing an internationalized curriculum at the Shaoxing No.1 Middle School.
