Update: SAYA Students in America

Already a few days into the SAYA exchange, Chinese students are adapting to life in the U.S. and enjoying the high school environment. Teacher and chaperone Ms. Einhe He said that she is impressed with the school and the courses available to the students. Between getting used to American food, sharing aspects of Chinese culture and visiting Boston landmarks, the students’ schedules are full of activities and learning about America.

SAYA Preview: students prepare to go to the U.S.

In less than two weeks, 14 students will go to the U.S. as the first group to participate in the SAYA program. While in the U.S., the students will give presentations sharing various aspects of life and culture in China.

From presentations about food to martial arts to daily life as a student, the Chinese students are excited about going to the U.S., attending an American high school for a week and sharing a little of China with their new friends.

International Culture Festival and Christmas party held in Nanjing Municipality

Ameson Foundation and Jinling High School Hexi Branch co-hosted a Christmas party on Christmas Day, 2009 to familiarize students with Western culture and also to celebrate the holiday season.

The event took place at the multi-functional hall of Jinling High School Hexi Branch. It kicked off at 2 pm and lasted for around three hours. School principals of Jinling high School, teachers and parents of the students also attended the event.

Last week saw an unforgettable journey for Ameson Foundation: Four American education experts were invited together with Professor Sean Zhang, Deputy Chairman of the Ameson to take an educational visit and participate in “International Forum on Educational Leadership and Equality” in Jinan and Hangzhou.

Podcast interview with Harvard's Prof. Fernando M. Reimers

On Sat. Oct. 31, Harvard’s Professor Fernando M. Reimers (Ford Foundation Professor of International Education, Director of Global Education and International Education Policy at Harvard) visited Ameson’s Nanjing Office. Prof. Reimers graciously agreed to an interview, to discuss policy changes that foster creativity in Chinese classrooms.

Podcast: interview with Dr. Tony Price

On Sun. Sept. 20, Dr. Tony Price, the Associate Dean, School of Engineering, University of Warwick, visited Ameson's Nanjing offices to meet with elite students, coordinate with Ameson's ACEIS team, and also to share his ideas about how top Chinese students might benefit from studying at Warwick in particular, and the UK in general.

Teachers arrive for new school year

August 24 was the start of Ameson’s teacher orientation week where teachers new and old participated in workshops, seminars and even a little bit of socializing. With 11 new teachers joining Ameson across 7 schools in Jiangsu and Anhui Province, Ameson's presence in the education community continues to expand in China. In the view of Prof. Sean Zhang, the Deputy Chairman of the Ameson Foundation, “Ameson is pleased, with the quality of the educators we have arranged, for our 2009-2010 school year programs in Jiangsu and Anhui."

altFor the last two years, the Ameson Chinese Elite program has brought together 300 of China's best-performing high school students, where they would spend a week interacting with recruiting officers from some of the finest universities in the world. This year, although the event was canceled (due to swine flu concerns) a smaller version was quickly organized with appearances by officials from the University of Cambridge, UCLA, Vanderbilt, Oxford, and the University of Michigan.
