On Sat. Oct. 31, Professor Fernando M. Reimers (Ford Foundation Professor of International Education, Director of Global Education and International Education Policy at Harvard) visited Ameson's Nanjing offices conduct an information session about Harvard’s Graduate School of Education.

After his presentation, Professor Reimers agreed to a (30-minute) podcast interview, during which he discussed at length: macro-policies in the Chinese education system; the importance of creatvity in the classroom, and how it is getting administered in China; his enthusiasm about Ameson's student newspaper (which led to him recalling how his own involvement in a student newspaper affected his life in very profound ways). 

Summary of the podcast contents:
  • Policy changes in China’s education system over the past 20 years, and how these influenced the quality of education that students received.
  • How diminished emphasis on GAOKAO scores (in order to foster more creativity in the classroom) has resulted in a ‘paradigm shift’.
  • General feedback on The Voice, an Ameson-sponsored newspaper with articles coming from students from 7 of the highest-ranking elite high schools in Jiangsu Province.
  • How Prof. Reimers’ participation in Harvard’s student newspaper (during his school days) influenced his life.
