meson Foundation and Jinling High School Hexi Branch co-hosted a Christmas party on Christmas Day, 2009 to familiarize students with Western culture and also to celebrate the holiday season.
Lucy Liu and Yang Wu, teachers at the Ameson Institute, planed the event and organized the show with teachers and students of the International Department of Jinling High School Hexi Branch. Students studying in the International Department of Jinling High School are pursuing a university education abroad, particularly in North America. Among them, many are in the U.S. High School program, a program collaborated by Ameson and the Jinling High School.
The event took place at the multi-functional hall of school. It kicked off at 2 pm and lasted for around three hours. School principals, teachers and parents of the students also attended the event.
All together the students performed 14 acts. Performances included poetry reading, singing, cross talk and theater playing. Plays, including William Shakespeare’s "The Merchant of Venice" were performed in English. Almost all acts were either in English or bilingual. There were also interactive games, such as Christmas bingo and a Christmas quiz, to introduce these concepts of Western culture to the students.
