meson Institute student Gong Kaiji just achieved six 5s in his Advanced Placement tests – perfect scores in every test taken. His scores are believed to be the highest among all students who took the AP tests in China.

Mr. Shan, APID Program Manager of Ameson, commented: “Students in Ameson take three to four AP courses on average and they usually achieve the score of 3 which would qualify them for the admission to undergraduate studies at US universities. What Kaiji achieved was extraordinary. We feel so proud of him.”

On the basis of his scores, Kaiji was accepted by UC Berkeley, one of the leading universities in the US.

A teacher's assessment

According to Jack Zhao, Kanji's Physics instructor, “he is really active at class. He always volunteers in presentations no matter at classrooms or physics laboratories. He is really persistent and creative in figuring out solutions to questions. And he frequently discusses academic topics with his classmates and tutors. He learns independently, thinks critically and divergently. Those are the keys to his success.”

Extra-curricular activities

Besides studying, Kaiji also excels in his extra-curricular activities. For instance, he has acted as a role model to fellow students by volunteering to collect garbage atop Purple Mountain, one of Nanjing's most popular tourist attractions. In doing so, he took special care to inform his peers – and also tourists on the mountain – about the importance of environmental protection.

In addition, he used to donate money he earned from newspaper selling to charities. “These activities provided him the opportunity of experiencing the hardship of life and helped developing his communication skills”, added Mr. Shan.

In Mr. Shan's view, his extra-curricular activities proved to be a major factor in his university applications, as many schools expressed serious interest in him, before he ultimately decided to accept an offer from UC Berkeley.
